Wardrunan toinen albumi, ja samalla keskimmäinen osa Runaljod-trilogiaa, on todella vangitsevaa uuskansanmusiikkia. Siinä on erittäin hypnoottinen poljento ja perinneinstrumentit pääsevät todella hyvin oikeuksiinsa. Riimuaiheisia levyjä on toki tehty jo paljon, mutta tässä on kyseessä aivan poikkeuksellisen onnistunut toteutus.

Kansanmusiikkisuudesta huolimatta mukana on myös raskaita sävyjä, mikä sopii kuvaan, koska kaksi yhtyeen kolmesta jäsenestä on soittaa myös metallia, mm. Gorgorothissa. Albumin vahvimmat hetket koetaan enimmäkseen sen alussa, mutta teos pitää kuulijan kautta linjan otteessaan, ja esimerkiksi keskivälin IwaR on todella mukaansatempaava, samoin lopun yhteislauluosuudet. Suvantoja on mukana, mutta ne vain tuovat kokonaisuudelle lisää tehoja.

Wardruna’s second album, and at the same time the middle part of their Runaljod trilogy, is really captivating neo-folklore music. It has a very hypnotic stride to it, and the traditional instruments have a proper chance to shine. The world has by now seen a lot of rune-themed albums, of course, but this one has a particularly good execution. Despite its folk music overtones, the album also contains a lot heavier elements, which fits as two of the band’s three members have played metal, in e.g. Gorgoroth. The strongest moments of the album are mostly found near its beginning, but it keeps its grip all through the way, and for example the mid-part IwaR is really catching, as are the together sung parts near the end. Some less impressive parts are also included, but those just work to add more power to the whole through intervals.
