Unite the Dead has recently gotten its style more together, and at least on this disc moved away from its EBM-like roots, some parts of which are still nevertheless present in things such as tone. The chosen style is more or less some kind of a mixture of esoteric ambient and heavier electronics. At times this is very clear, but there are moments when the slightly muted sounds eat away the more recognizable parts of the music. Many of the tracks have a charming retro feel to them, and they help bind the album into being listened to as an experimental work even when it sounds mostly like broken-down old game music, like it does on Ra-Hoor-Khuit. The disc is definitely at its best when it is restrained enough. Especially the over 10 minutes long, whisper-filled Kali Ma, which occasionally forays into becoming new age music, is a fine piece of work. The more rhythmic stuff has also been refined to work well with the other songs, making it a solid part of the whole. Especially one such track, Naked Lunch, is disturbingly catchy and clever.

There is still a slight sense of lacking direction here, but there are also lots of interesting parts and unorthodox innovations that have been put to good use.

Unite the Dead on hiljalleen tiivistänyt ilmaisuaan ja ainakin tällä kiekolla siirtynyt kauemmaksi EBM-elementeistä, vaikka niistä onkin selviä palasia yhä mukana, varsinkin soundien sävyn puolella. Linjana on lähinnä kai jonkinlainen esoteerinen ambientin ja raskaamman elektroniikan välimuoto. Hetkittäin se välittyy erittäin tehokkaasti, mutta välillä hiukan tunkkaiset soundit syövät materiaalin tunnistettavammat palaset alleen. Useat raidoista sisältävät viehättävää retromaisuutta rakenteissaan, ja niiden avulla levy ankkuroituu toimivasti omalle maaperälleen, niin että sitä kuuntelee luontevasti kokeellisena teoksena silloinkin kun se kuulostaa lähinnä hajotetulta vanhalta elektroniikkapelimusiikilta, kuten esim raidan Ra-Hoor-Khuit kohdalla käy. Albumi on ylivoimaisesti parhaimmillaan silloin kun se on riittävän hillitty. Varsinkin reilut 10 minuuttia pitkä, hetkittäin new age -musiikinkin puolella käväisevä Kali Ma, on kuiskailuineen hienosti toimiva kokonaisuus. Samoin myös kaikkein rytmisin materiaali on nyt saatu toimimaan kokonaisuuden ehdoilla huomattavan hyvin, ja näistä varsinkin Naked Lunch on hävyttömän tarttuva ja kekseliäs.
