Päävaiheita on kolme: alun maalailevat melodiat,
keskivaiheen synkät, Moljebka Pvlsen mieleen tuovat painostavammat
sävyt, ja lopun hypnoottiset rytmit. Kukin näistä on noin
Jiituomas

| Shutûn contains a studio version of the live set Troum and All Sides played while touring in 2005-2006. So it's essentially the same material that was heard in Turku. Close to an hour of ambient made through manipulated guitars, sometimes dominated by droning, sometimes by rhythm. The album forms a logical arc, building up slowly through differing segments toward a rhythmic, harmonious and powerful ending. In this, it is much closer indeed to a live performance than to a "traditional" ambient album. It is not a level soundscape, but rather like a hillside that is being ascended. There are three main parts: a beginning with landscape-creating melodies, a middle with more gloomy, Moljebka Pvlse-like oppressive tones, and the hypnotic rhythmic part at the end. Each of these is about 15 minutes long, and between them are smooth transition phases from one part to the next. Throughout the way the music is very much Troum, but it is nevertheless possible to also see the handprint of guest-artist Nina Kernicke in the material as well. If one thinks of Shutûn as a live-performance,
it is excellent. If one thinks of it as guitar-manipulation ambient
in general, it's very good stuff. If, however, one thinks of it as a
Troum album, it's just a strong mid-level work from them, one that does
not reach the level of perfection present in their best works. Jiituomas
