| Kiehtovana poikkeuksena kokeellisen musiikin yleisestä kentästä Henrik Summasen soundtrack ylistettyyn ruotsalaiseen live-roolipeliin Mellan Himmel Och Hav (2003) on mitä ilmeisimmin tehty ilman suuria ennakkokosketuksia muihin vastaavantyyppistä audiojälkeä tekeviin artisteihin. Itse levy ei ole varsinainen ääniraita, vaan temaattinen 70 minuutin valikoima otteita alkuperäisestä 72-tuntisesta kokonaisuudesta.

| Tyylilajina on siksi selkeästi äänimaisema.
        Se koostuu joukosta droneja ja prosessoituja ääniä, muistuttaen
        vahvasti Auben tuotantoa. Erityisesti osuudet joissa käytetään
        muokattua lasinkilinää käyvät sitä todella lähellä.
        Mukana on myös runsaasti erittäin taitavaa monitaajuista surinaa
        (tuoden minulle mieleen Moljebka Pvlsen upean 00.09.24
        -liven) ja useita matalampia aalto- ja koneääniä. Seassa
Jiituomas | ||

| An intriguing exception in the general field of current-day experimental music, Henrik Summanen's soundtrack to the highly acclaimed Swedish live-action role play Mellan Himmel och Hav (2003) was apparently done without much previous contact to artists creating similar audio experiences. The record isn't actually the entire soundtrack, but rather a thematic 70-minute selection made out of key pieces from the actual 72-hour long sonic background. Due to its intended use, the music is understandably a holistic soundscape. It is created out of a selection of drones and processed sounds, heavily resembling the works of artists like Aube. Especially the parts that use modified glass clicks come very, very close. There's also plenty of very skilful multi-frequency buzzing (highly reminiscent of Moljebka Pvlse's brilliant live album "00.09.24") and several lower-tone wave- and engine-sounds. Into the mix are for thematical reasons added occasional pieces of organic melody. Those pieces do not fit as seamlessly into the whole as the other parts, but on the other hand they are something not previously utilized in any similar record I can think of. One element that also definitely deserves to be mentioned is the extremely effective use of echoes throughout the entire album. There are several problems, though, and they are also quite apparent. The record clearly shows that it's been intended for background use, not as an independent composition. It neither offers strong, forceful parts that draw a listener closer nor is it ethereal enough to completely transform into pure ambience or mood. In addition, several parts of it could have been polished into a much more stylish form had the composer been familiar with the works of other artists who have utilized the same elements as he does to a more effective degree. In many cases the result is nevertheless innovative, but there are moments when it could have been a better idea not to re-invent the proverbial wheel. Despite its flaws Mellan Himmel och Hav is a very interesting
        album. There is a lot of room for both development and improvement, yet
        at the same time the artist's definite talent can be easily observed from
        it. Jiituomas | ||
