This comeback by these CMI veterans has been waited for a long time. Their previous bigger work, the not very impressive Domine Rex Inferum, came out five years ago. Thus I for one was quite doubtful about what was coming. Now I can say that my fears were, and were not, justified. The band's style has remained very similar to what it was. In other words, we are dealing with quite old school -style material here. Infernal material is a bit less aggressive and a bit slower than their earlier work, though.

There are also some new, quite different ways of using vocals, often but not always as subdued additions. The sound tone is quite high, yet still always clearly mean and oppressive. The album seems to work mostly as one single rough whole. Nevertheless, two of its tracks stand out on their own as well: the scream-filled Point of Presence and the fantastic, slow Lord, make me an instrument of your wrath.

MZ.412 has created easily accessed, yet very clever death industrial. This is a good album indeed. Nevertheless, it is still just a pale shadow of the creative brilliance present on the bands classic works such as the album In Nomine Dei Nostri….

Compared to most industrial records, an excellent album. As an MZ.412 album, just a mediocre work.

Tätä CMI:n pitkän linjan veteraanin paluuta on jo odotettu kauan. Edellisestä julkaisusta, tätä albumia ennakoineesta mutta varsin vaisuksi jääneestä Domine Rex Inferum -kiekosta on vierähtänyt jo viisi vuotta. Siksi ainakin minulla oli melkoisen epäileväinen olo tämän albumin suhteen. Nyt voi todeta, että pelkoon sekä oli että ei ollut syytä. Yhtyeen linja on hyvin entisen kaltainen, eli ollaan tekemisissä aika old school -kaman kanssa. Infernal Affairs on aiempaa tuotantoa hillitympi ja hitaampi. Mukana on myös aika paljon aiemmasta eroavaa tapaa käyttää vokaaleita, usein mutta ei aina varsin vaimeina lisukkeina. Äänimaailma on varsin korkea, ollen silti kuitenkin selkeän ilkeä ja ahdistava. Albumi tuntuu toimivan lähinnä yhtenä karuna kokonaisuutena. Silti kaksi sen radoista, huutoisa Point of Presence ja erittäin hieno hidas Lord, make me an instrument of your wrath, erottuvat kokonaisuudesta edukseen. MZ.412 on tehnyt helposti lähestyttävää, mutta kuitenkin kekseliästä kalmaindustrialia. Tämä on hyvä levy, oikein hyvä. Se on kuitenkin vain kalpea varjo siitä nerokkuudesta, jota yhtye on osoittanut In Nomine Dei Nostri... -albumin kaltaisilla klassikoillaan. Yleiseen tasoon nähden mainio kiekko, mutta MZ.412:n luomukseksi vain keskinkertainen. Jiituomas
