Mathias Josefson, best known for Moljebka Pvlse, also creates lots of "sound art" under his own name. Suihkulähde contains, depending how you count, one or two works. On its a-side is an unaltered field recording, which is good, stylish, slow drone with a few clangs here and there. It has a dark, low tone and structure so flowing that if one didn't know it's a field recording, it would probably easily merit praise for its composition as well. On the b-side is a version of the same material, altered by Josefson.

Suihkulähde is an amazingly fine work. Even the knowledge that the a-side is "only" a field recording does not make it any less interesting. Josefson's remix is nevertheless definitely the more interesting side, and is something that can be listened to repeatedly. The whole album stands firm on the line between sound art and drone, in a manner that makes classifying it precisely an absolutely futile attempt. So it is much easier to simply note that it's a damn good record, and leave defining at that.

A truly fine piece of drone. (And extra points for the packaging: the album cover is plain white, the name is written on the plastic sleeve. Extremely stylish.)

Paremmin Moljebka Pvlsesta tunnettu Mathias Josefson tekee myös runsaasti "äänitaide"-osaston musiikkia omalla nimellään. Suihkulähde sisältää laskentatavasta riippuen joko yhden tai kaksi teosta. Sen a-puolen muodostaa muuntamaton kenttänauhoitus, joka on hyvää, tyylikästä ja hidasta dronea siellä täällä olevien kolinoiden kera. Sen sävy on varsin matala ja tumma, ja rakenne niin sujuva että mikäli ei tietäisi kyseessä olevan vain nauhoite, saattaisi sävellystyötäkin herkästi kehua. B-puolella on samasta osuudesta Josefsonin uudelleen muokkaama versio, josta selvästi huomaa että sitä on muunneltu. Suihkulähde on hämmästyttävän hieno teos. Edes tietoisuus siitä että A-puoli on "vain" suoraan tallennettua ääntä muualta ei tee siitä yhtään vähemmän mielenkiintoista. Josefsonin muokkaama puoli on kuitenkin selkeästi mielenkiintoisempi, ja sitä jaksaa kuunnella toistamiseen lukuisia kertoja. Koko albumi on tiukasti äänitaiteen ja dronen välimaastossa, tavoilla jotka tekevät sen tarkasta luokittelemisesta täysin mahdotonta. Helpoin ratkaisu on vain todeta että se on helvetin hieno levy, ja jättää muu määritteleminen sikseen. Dronen aatelia.
